Nightfall star party and imaging conference is held on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, typically around late October or early November. The Riverside Astronomical Society sponsors and hosts the event at the Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort in Borrego Springs, California. It’s a very informative and fun event.
This was our first time at Nightfall and we had a good time. We not only picked up some good astronomy tips, we also got to see fluorescent scorpions!
Anza Borrego is a California State Park located in the desert about 85 miles northeast of San Diego, California. This was our second ever outing destination in our new Airstream in April 2014, and we have returned several times since. We usually stay at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground, but it’s dangerous as you can see!!
A couple of times while staying at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground in Anza Borrego State Park, we took day trips to the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea is a huge body of water about 32 miles east of the city of Borrego Springs. It is reported to be the largest lake in California with an average size of 15 miles by 35 miles. The picture above looks nice doesn’t it? Well … my daughter is standing on dead fish. The beach all around this huge lake is covered almost entirely with dead fish.
Right after Christmas in 2014, we made a week long trek to Phoenix, Arizona to visit relatives. The RV parks we stayed in on our way there, in Phoenix and during our return were not very interesting. I’ll briefly mention the one in Phoenix only because we stayed there for four days. The other two were one night we need a place to stay campgrounds.
